Prekindergarten

May 2010

Take me out to the ballgame…or the campground…or the beach…

In the month of May we are celebrating summer fun!!  Our classic story is The Princess and the Pea (of course we had to end the year with one last princess story for our very own prek princesses!!) and our nursery rhyme is Jack and Jill.

During the first week of May we will get ready for the summertime by studying baseball.  We will paint baseballs and bats, learn some rules of the game, do cheers, and make pennants.  One day we will wear our baseball caps and “play ball.”  We even have a surprise treat for the girls after they play J.

The following week we will go “camping.”  We will make a fire (paper), cook s’mores, and have a picnic snack around the “campfire.”  Of course, no camping experience is complete without ants; therefore, we will do a lot of ant activities throughout the week.

Lastly, our two final weeks will be a blast “getting ready for the beach and pool” activities.  We will paint beach balls, discuss water and sun safety, and create pictures using seashells and sand.

On Thursday, May 6th the girls will go on a field trip to see how a pastry shop operates.  Please look in Childpost for your daughter’s permission slip.  Then, on Friday, May 7th we will have our Prek Tea Party.  Moms or special guest, please meet us in the dining hall at 9:30.  Our special event will begin at 9:45.  It is such a wonderful event and we are looking forward to it.

MAY CROWNING is on Friday, May 14, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel on the Rosary Campus followed by gouter in the front courtyard.  The girls will walk to the Chapel, and we ask you to meet us there.  All are invited to attend.  Your daughter should wear her white uniform to school on the day of May Crowning.  She should wear white or black party shoes with socks, and may wear a light blue or white ribbon or headband.  Please have your daughter bring a flower from the garden to present in honor of Our Lady.  A single stem--something simple--is appropriate.  Your daughter will return to the Mater campus for regular classes following the May Crowning.  Please send her uniform and school shoes in her book bag.  If you would like to take her home, we will dismiss from the Mater Campus after our return.

Can you believe we are at the end of the school year?  We have enjoyed teaching your precious daughter so much.  She has grown into such a big girl and we know she is excited about going kindergarten.  We will miss her.  We also want to thank you, the fabulous parents of our prek girls; for all that you have done for our program.  Your support and involvement means so much to your daughter and to us as well.

Have a wonderful and relaxing summer!

We dismiss at noon on May 24, 25, 26 (M, T, W), with our LAST day of school on Wednesday, May 26th.
