First Grade March Newsletter 04
Dear Parents,
We hope everyone has a fun filled Mardi Gras break. We will see you back on March 2nd. We do not have school on Monday, March 1st. On Friday, March 5th we will have our Parent/Teacher Conferences. Your conference time will be mailed to you with the Progress Report.
In language arts we continue to use children’s literature and poetry to cover various components of reading such as comprehension, phonics, spelling and writing. In Explode the Code we will begin to work on the study of long vowel words with silent “e”.
In math we are focusing on subtraction, time, and measurement. Please practice the subtraction flashcards with your daughter as well as reviewing the addition facts. We will be learning time to the hour and half hour. Please practice telling time with an analog clock.
This month we will begin our study of New Orleans. We will be going on a field trip Thursday, March 18th to Insta-Gator Ranch and Hatchery in Covington. This will be a fun-filled, educational tour of a real life alligator hatchery. We will culminate our unit study of New Orleans with New Orleans Day on Wednesday, March 31st. We will have many activities and food items having to do with our wonderful city we call New Orleans! We encourage all parents to attend and participate in this exciting morning. If you would like to donate any New Orleans food items/ dishes, please contact your child’s room mother. New Orleans Day is a fabulous day for all involved!
The girls have enjoyed writing to their pen-pals at the Convent of the Sacred Heart in New York City. We even sent them Mardi Gras beads!
