Counseling
Mrs. Janice Foulks
What a privilege it is to greet your daughters each morning as they arrive filled with enthusiasm for their day ahead at Sacred Heart. Meeting and greeting and “being where the girls are” are so much of what Pre/Lower School counseling is all about! As I visit the Preschool classrooms, I often interact with the girls through group guidance sessions. When the kindergarten girls were learning the letter C, I went in as the Counselor where we discussed my role here at Sacred Heart. Accompanying me for that session was my pet Conure (small parrot) who lives in a cage, and eats corn, carrots, cucumber, and crackers, among other things! Of course we had a treat, chocolate chip cookies! For curriculum integration, the word cards for all of the C items were placed in the kindergarten writing center and the girls also had the opportunity to create their art interpretation of Our Counselor and Her Conure. In a recent session with the pre-kindergarten classes, they met my puppets, Can-Do and Will-Do, and we read The Big Slide, a story about sharing. In nursery, the girls and I are spending time together as I visit the classrooms and with the teachers prepare for our Halloween activities and the traditional “pumpkin hunt”.
So that we can be better prepared to take care of your daughter here at Sacred Heart, it is helpful if you let us know of any changes in your work schedule, travel plans, illness or death, separation or divorce that may affect your family. Very often we see reactions here at school and we want to work with you in caring for your daughter. I look forward to seeing you throughout the year and invite you to give me a call if I can assist you in any.
