The preschool girls formally work with the computer once a week for 45 minutes. We work in small groups as part of the classroom “centers”. Presently in nursery we are working on hand-eye coordination using the mouse. We are using the program Let’s Start Learning where students do activities using numbers, letters, patterns, and shapes. We have also visited the Sesame Street web site which allows the girls to select and play enjoyable yet educational activities with their favorite Sesame Street characters.
In pre-kindergarten and kindergarten we have been working with a variety of software; namely, Blue’s Clues, Franklin Learns Math, Authur’s Computer Adventure, and Jump Start Pre-K and Kindergarten. In kindergarten we have also visited the Little Explorers Picture Dictionary online to find pictures of and the spellings for G words. In both pre-kindergarten and kindergarten we are currently making Halloween masks using KidPix. The students get to select the design they want to decorate, as well as the colors and patterns they want to use, while being careful to “paint” within the lines. We are having a great time while learning with technology.

Tech tip of the day: To avoid having to type a web site in every time you go to the Internet do the following: while in your favorite site, go to FAVORITES or BOOKMARKS (depending on your computer) at the top of the screen (where it says File, Edit, View, etc.) Click there and scroll down to Add to Favorites then click OK. The next time you want to go to the site, simply go to Favorites again and scroll down to the title of that site.
