NURSERY
The focus of the nursery art class is introducing the students to a wide variety of art materials and techniques. The girls are encouraged to experiment freely with materials and to explore their physical characteristics. Emphasis is on the creative process more than the final product. Last week we looked at pictures by Degas and then drew pastel ballerinas!
PRE-KINDERGARTEN
The pre-kindergarten art class is a time for the students to explore their creativity and imaginations and to express themselves freely and openly through a variety of art materials and tools. Experimentation and play with different artistic media (i.e. chalk, pastels, and watercolor) are as important as the final results. We are about to begin pictures of “Mommy and Me” after looking at famous mother and child pictures by Mary Cassatt.
KINDERGARTEN
The focus of the kindergarten art class is art as self-expression and fun! The students are asked to look to their imaginations, their memories, and the world around them for inspiration and ideas. Students practice the skills of cutting, pasting, arranging, drawing, painting, and modeling. Although we learn a variety of creative techniques, emphasis is on artistic exploration and freedom. The actual processes are stressed as much as the final product. We recently completed oil pastel/watercolor Candyland pictures.
