Sun-sational Summer

Third Grade Project: Create a flier which highlights your summer activities.

Instructions:

*     Open Microsoft Word.

*     Change the margins by going to File---Page setup. Change the top margin to .5, the bottom margin to 0.5, the left margin to .5, and the right margin to .5, by clicking the up or down arrows next to the numbers.

*     Center all of your information on the page by clicking the Center key on the tool bar.

*     Viewing tool bars:  Make sure that your drawing tool bar is displayed by clicking the View button on the menu bar, scroll down to Toolbars then over to Drawing.  If there is no check in front of Drawing, click it so that you can select it and the drawing tool bar will appear

*     Highlight the title “Sun-sational Summer” which is written in plain text by clicking your mouse in front of it, while holding down your mouse button, drag and highlight the title.

*     On the Drawing tool bar, select the symbol for WordArt.  It is a blue slanted “A”.  After clicking the “A”, select the WordArt design you would like by clicking it then clicking OK.

*     The shaded area should have your title already typed in, “ Sun-sational Summer”.  If so, click OK.  If not, erase what’s there and type in the correct title then click OK.

*     After completing the title, begin to list your summer activities by clicking on the WordArt titles that say “Activities”.  Replace them with your activity such as “camping, Disneyworld, swimming, Six Flags, etc.  It should be no more than one or two word titles.

*     After typing all of your information, we will then make text boxes in the sunshades to put your first and last name.

*     On the Drawing toolbar, locate the icon for a text box.  It looks like a sheet of paper with the letter A in the left corner and lines across the sheet.  The Drawing toolbar is usually located at the bottom of the screen.

*     Click on the icon, and draw a box in the left lens of the sunglasses.  While the text box is still selected, locate the spilling paint can on the drawing tool bar.  Click the arrow next to it and select “no fill”. Then locate the paint brush next to the paint can, click the arrow next to the paint brush and select no line.

*     Locate straight A with the black line under it and click the arrow next to it.  Select a bright color such as white or yellow for your text.  This is because the background on the sunshades is black.  Repeat these same steps for the lens on the right side of the sunshades.

*     Begin typing in your text box.  Your first name goes in the left lens and your last name goes in the right lens.  Change the font size to make it as large as possible but staying inside the lens area.

*     Always do a spell check!

*     After your work has been checked by the teacher you may print to the color printer.  Click here for sample flier.
