To become a good typist, you'll need to practice--a lot!  If you get in the habit of always placing your hands "at home" whenever you're on the keyboard, you'll help develop your typing skills.

Use the above color-coded keyboard as a guide to correct fingering on the keyboard.  Note the pattern of keys ("diagonal rows") for each finger to type.

Here's a typing test for you to practice.

Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country.
The quick, sly fox jumps over the lazy brown dog.  computer

To type 10 wpm (words per minute) with 80% accuracy and 80% correct fingering without looking, you need to type the above in 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

To type 15 wpm with 90% accuracy and 90% correct fingering, you need to type the above sentences in 1 minute and 40 seconds.

Are you up to it? Keep practicing because, as you know, practice makes perfect! (And also makes for good typists!)

To get yourself in the habit of keeping your eyes from wandering down to look at the keyboard, put a pair of boxer shorts over the keyboard.  Insert your keyboard through the waist opening of the boxers, then slip your hands through the leg holes.  "Find" your f and j keys (by feeling for the marking on the keys) and let your other fingers fall into position.
