Computer
Applications: This course is designed to
provide students with a broad knowledge of microcomputer
and software concepts.
The course offers hands-on experience with
application software packages including word processing,
spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, and presentation
graphics. The
student will also learn how to evaluate information on the
Internet. The
ethical and responsible use of technology is an underlying
component of this course.
Designing Web Pages (Prerequisite: Computer Applications or approval of instructor): The creation and maintenance of web pages using HTML tags will be taught. Included will be how to set up and organize a web site, along with instructions on how to display text, images, links, lists, tables, and frames. Multimedia Design (Prerequisite: Computer Applications): In this course, students use multimedia to obtain a deeper understanding of computer technology and its capabilities. Students will work with hypermedia, presentation, and web page design programs to create multimedia presentations integrating text, graphics, sound, animation, photography, and video resources as well as interfacing with a range of hardware: CD ROMs, scanner, digital cameras and video digitizers. Students also learn how to use a desktop publishing program to design layouts as well as a range of graphics programs and tools to incorporate art work, graphics and photographs in their publications. Computer Programming (Prerequisite: Computer Applications or approval of instructor): The fundamentals of the C++ programming language will be introduced. Students will gain a basic understanding of the C++ language structure and the problem solving techniques used in programming. They will demonstrate proficiency in the use of the C++ language, design, code, and testing C++ programs. Students may take programming as a one-semester course or as a year-long AP course. |
