Honors Algebra Ramp Project

During our study of slope, the class was assigned the task of finding a location in their community that was in need of improved accessibility. Each student photographed and measured their location and then began the task of designing a ramp to fit the needs of their space within the guidelines laid out by the Americans with Disabilities Act. They made sketches on paper and then used Google's SketchUp software to make a 3-D model of their design.

Julie: I chose an apartment building in downtown that did not have a ramp.  This ramp would wrap around the corner of the stairs that are present.  They would both lead up to the same platform.  It is not very steep and follows the wheelchair ramp regulations about the slope, length, and railings.
